When insuring a motorcycle, the owner cannot purchase first party benefits, such as medical benefits and income loss benefits. In Florida, this is referred to as Personal Injury Protection, or PIP. A common cause of motorcycle accidents is the at-fault driver's failure to see and/or recognize motorcycles in traffic. In two-thirds of those accidents, the driver of the other vehicle violated the motorcyclist's right-of-way causing the accident. Additionally, many motorcycle accidents occur when the driver of a car misjudges the distance and speed of the motorcycle and makes a left-turn into the oncoming motorcyclist.
